Senator John Brooks is a lifelong resident of Long Island who has devoted his life to serving the community. John was first elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2018 because voters trust him to continue his legacy of service and commitment.

Brooks holds a Bachelor’s degree from New York Institute of Technology and an Associate’s degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale. He resides in Seaford, and is a proud father and grandfather.

  • Secured 100 million dollars to contain and clean up the Bethpage Plume, protecting our precious natural resources.
  • Passed common-sense gun legislation that extended the waiting period for gun purchase and banned high-risk, dangerous indivudals from obtaining firearms.
  • Passed the Child Victims Act, ensuring victims of abuse can seek justice in our courts.
  • Passed a permanent property tax cap that will save taxpayers nearly 200 billion dollars and lowered New York's middle-class income tax to the lowest rate in decades.
  • Secured record funding for our schools which will reduce class sizes, bring new technology into classrooms, and preserve sports and afterschool programs.
  • As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security, and Military Affairs, secured full funding for important projects to support veterans such as the Joseph P. Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Counseling Program

For more than 45 years, John Brooks has been an active volunteer firefighter with the Seaford, Medford and Lindenhurst Fire Departments, previously serving as Seaford’s Chief of Department.

In addition to his work for the fire department, John Brooks served on the Seaford Board of Education for a total of six years, acting as Vice President from 1997-1999.

Prior to Superstorm Sandy, John Brooks was the Chairman of the Long Island Hurricane Symposium Programs where he worked hand-in-hand with hurricane experts and the National Weather Services to evaluate risk on Long Island. Brooks is a veteran of the New York Army National Guard, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from New York Institute of Technology and an Associate’s degree from the State University of New York at Farmingdale.

He resides in Seaford, has a son, John, and is the proud grandfather of Penelope.
